Summary of the article: According to the article " Study St. John's wort fails to help kids with ADHD- a blow to herbal supplements", it briefly discuss if herbal supplements help children with ADHD rather than taking stimulants such as Ritalin. Researchers tested 54 children from ages 6-17 years old; researchers gave one group of kids St. John's wort capsules 3 times a day for 8 weeks and gave the other group the Ritalin.The results of the test showed that it was no change in the groups. The prescription med had more side effects such as ;nervousness,agitation,and insomnia. A participant of the study said "that she had taken the supplement and she had not side effect like the prescibe med." Overall researchers say that parents would rather avoid prescription medication and use herbal remedies.

In the text book, 3-7% of children have ADHD. Children with ADHD have problems with memory, decision making, focus on simply daily task, as well as a short attention span. Hyperactive is another sign that your child my be suffering from ADHD.

It is wonderful that there is medicine out there to help control things like ADHD so kids can concentrate and do better in school. If there is something to take so that there are less side effects, such as the herbal medicine, we should be putting more kids on it rather than ritalin.
